10 May 2007: Online job searches hit record high
Figures released today by Jobcentre Plus reveal unprecedented growth in Internet job hunting. In a single week in March, the Jobcentre Plus website (www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk) experienced a record 6.5 million job searches conducted by nearly 2.2 million online jobseekers. The site has handled more than 70 million job searches already this year, making it the UK’s number one recruitment site with more than 14 per cent of the overall recruitment market Lesley Strathie, chief executive of Jobcentre Plus, said: “Our website provides a vital channel for helping large numbers of people back into work and we hope this recent increase in activity is a sign of continued growth to come.”
